Biography

Nicholas Botchey (born May 27 1996), also known on stage as Afrobeast, is a Ghanaian dancer and dance coach who hails from Ajumako Bisease in the Central region of Ghana. Afrobeast was born on May 27, 1996 in Ashaima n in the Greater region of Ghana to Angela and Emmanuel Botchey. He is the third born of four of his parents. Nicholas had his basic and junior high school education at Ashaiman No 5 Basic School. He moved to Royal Technical college to study electrical & electronics engineering. In high school, he was known to be one of the best dancers in the school. Afrobeast later moved to Accra Technical University to pursue his tertiary education. Afrobeast got into the limelight when he invented the afrobeat dance move named ‘Guda’. Guda is from the native language of Hausa and means the first or number one. The dance, according to Afrobeast, was motivated by the 2020 police brutality and racist events that happened in the United States and other parts of the world. #gudachallenge which was the dance hashtag trended all over the world. He has performed on many notable stages including One Africa Music in Dubai, as well as choreographed the DWP Dance performance at Afrochella. He is also known to have hosted a dance class in Dubai. In 2017, Afrobeast with his manager and dance partner, Dancegod LLoyd initiated a charitable group called “Dance With Purpose Academy” which was aimed at helping young talented dancers on the street. He is the co-founder of the dance school, DWP Academy. He is known as one of the dancers to perform in the Already music video by Beyonce featuring Shatta Wale. In 2021, he collaborated with his co-dancer, Dancegod Lloyd to release a single titled “Corner Der”. Afrobeast got into the limelight when he invented the afrobeat dance move named ‘Guda’. He has performed on many notable stages including One Africa Music in Dubai, as well as choreographed the DWP Dance performance at Afrochella.
