Hocine Ziani

Biography

Hocine Ziani is an Algerian painter known for his diverse range of works that incorporate elements of realism, hyperrealism, impressionism, and semi-abstraction. He was born in 1953 in Kabylia, Algeria, and showed an early interest in art. After completing his military service in the Algerian desert, he transitioned from accounting to pursue a career in art. Ziani’s career began in Algeria where he participated in various art groups and contributed to the establishment of a national museum. His early works often focused on historical themes, but he later shifted towards natural spaces, people, and fantasies. Notably, he learned lithography to experiment with new techniques. In 1992, due to escalating terrorism in Algeria, Ziani relocated to Paris and later settled in Strasbourg. He collaborated with prominent art dealers and gained international recognition. His works have been exhibited worldwide, and he received accolades including the Prix de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Ziani’s paintings are characterized by a rich visual language, employing realism, hyperrealism, and other styles. He utilizes contrast, light, shadows, and reflections to create dynamic compositions. His works are held in esteemed collections in various countries, including governmental and presidential institutions, reflecting his global influence in the art world.
