Halida Bougheriet

Biography

A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the SVA exchange program in New York in cinematography until 2005, Halida Boughriet is a French and Algerian artist. Playing on the dichotomies between reality and fiction, she works with different artistic languages influenced by the Situationists and Fluxus in her use of performance, photography and video. At the crossroads of an aesthetic, social and political concern, his pieces strive to capture the tensions in human relationships highlighted by society. The body is omnipresent, like an instrument of experimental poetic gesture. His works are kept at the Center for New Media at the Center Pompidou in Paris, at the Musée d’Art Contemporain du Val-de-Marne in Vitry-sur-Seine, at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Algiers and at the Hood Museum (USA) . Halida Boughriet has participated in international events including Elles@centrepompidou in Paris (2010), the Algiers Contemporary Art Festival (2011), the Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris (2012, 2019, 2022) She participates in “Video and After” at the Center Pompidou, at the Dakar International Biennale in 2014, and on the radio program Documenta 14 (2017, Athens, Kassel). In 2018, she was one of the artists in the “Persona Grata” exhibition at the National Museum of the History of Immigration. In 2019, she also participated in the first edition of the Rabat Biennale dedicated to women artists and recently in the exhibition dedicated to ‘Picasso & Les Femmes d’Alger’ at the Berggruen Museum (Berlin).
