Biography

Charles was born in Harare in 1974 and was educated in Harare. After completing his high school he began inspiring Tapfuma Gutsa whom had set up a studio Utonga at his father’s High Density Suburb. Charles has also worked along side sculptors like Eddie Masaya, Garrison Machinjili, Dominic Benhura and Gerald Takawira to name a few. He has some of his works accepted in galleries in Zimbabwe and abroad. He also has some of his works purchased by private collectors overseas. Charles has a number of group exhibitions locally and abroad. He is interested in working on hard colourful Springstone, Green Opalstone and Leopard Rock, he has ventured into new Iconography in an attempt to reinterpret the values and beliefs of his culture in a contemporary idiom. He is one of a few innovative sculptors in Zimbabwe who is expanding their repertoire of themes and subjects taking a nontraditional approach to traditional materials.
