A world-renowned painter, teacher and writer, Abdurahman Mohamed Sherif was educated at Berlin’s Staatliche Hochschule Fuer Bildende Kuenste through a DAAD scholarship. He completed his Masters’ in Fine Arts in 1968, earning him the title of Meisterschueler. A year later, he began showcasing his work at solo and group exhibitions in Ethiopia and in other countries including Belgium, the former Czechoslovakia, Germany, Nigeria, USA and Russia. He worked as an Art Instructor at the Kotebe Teachers’ Training Institute for two years until 1970. He then joined the Addis Ababa University School of Fine Arts and Design, and was made its Director in 1975. He remained in this post until 1993. Apart from being a Senior Lecturer in Screen Printing, he held additional responsibilities as a Lecturer and Department Head of the Visual Communication Department. In 1997, he received another DAAD grant. This Study Visit Award brought him to the Universitaet der Kuenste in Berlin, where he received specialised training in Screen Printing. He is the author of numerous papers that have been presented at international conferences and symposiums, and has penned articles for prestigious publications around the world.
